FLORIDA CONFEDERATE HOLIDAYS

The Community Affairs Committee in the Florida Senate has voted to support a that bill would remove Confederate days from a list of 21 legal holidays on the books in Florida. The birthdays of Confederate General Robert E. Lee and Confederate President Jefferson Davis, along with a Confederate Memorial Day, have been on the books for over a hundred years. State legal holidays are not necessarily paid holidays for public employees. Sunday is considered a legal holiday and other legal holidays include Susan B. Anthony’s birthday, Good Friday, Flag Day, and Pascua Florida Day, which marks the discovery of Florida in 1513 by Juan Ponce de Leon.
