The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says a humpback whale was seen in the Gulf about 12-15 miles south of Panama City Beach last week. An FWC spokeswoman said in the winter months, juvenile humpback whales will head to Florida and usually stay in the Atlantic Ocean, but occasionally will enter the Gulf. It’s the second time this year a whale has been spotted off Panama City Beach. In January, an endangered right whale was spotted swimming past the second sandbar. A fully-grown humpback whale weighs 25 to 40 tons, is up to 60 feet long and will live to be about 50 years old.
