SCHOOL SAFETY FUNDING

The Pensacola News Journal is reporting Escambia County Commission Chairman Jeff Bergosh would like to help fund school safety plans with Law Enforcement Trust funds – money which comes from cash and assets seized by law enforcement agencies during criminal investigations. Bergosh proposed requiring half the money in the LET fund to be spent on school resource officers and the board voted 4-1 to  send a letter to local state legislators and the governor supporting the idea. Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan told the News Journal Thursday he was not in favor of Bergosh’s proposal. Bergosh said using 50 percent of the law enforcement trust fund would still leave the other half for the sheriff to use how he sees fit.
