An Ohio businessman convicted of defrauding Newpoint charter schools out of hundreds of thousands of dollars in public funds will be sentenced Friday. Steven Kunkemoeller was found guilty of organized fraud and racketeering last week. Kunkemoeller and his co-conspirator, Marcus May, intentionally overbilled Newpoint schools $900,000 for furniture and equipment. 14 Newpoint schools in Florida – including Newpoint High, Newpoint Academy and Five Flags Academy in Pensacola – have since closed.
