FLORIDA EX-FELONS VOTING RIGHTS

A federal judge has blocked Florida’s process of restoring voting rights for ex-felons. U.S. District Judge Mark Walker has given Governor Rick Scott and the Board of Executive Clemency a month to come up with a new system of providing ex-felons the right to vote. Walker, found that the state’s clemency system is arbitrary and violated First Amendment rights and equal-protection rights under the U.S. Constitution’s 14th Amendment. Walker asked both sides to propose a new method to restore voting rights to ex-felons.
