SOUTHWEST PILOT TRAINED IN PENSACOLA

Tammie Jo Shults, the pilot of the Southwest Airlines airliner that suffered an explosion in an engine on Tuesday, trained as a pilot at the Naval Air Station here in Pensacola. She was able to bring her twin-engine Boeing 737 in for an emergency landing after the engine blew at 32,000 feet on a flight from New York to Dallas. Jennifer Riordan, a passenger, died after being partially sucked out of a shattered window. Seven others among the 144 passengers were injured. The National Transportation Safety board said a preliminary investigation indicates a turbine blade failed.
