The Pensacola News Journal is reporting that National Rifle Association lobbyist Marion Hammer is criticizing State Senator Doug Broxson for his vote for the School Safety Act that, among other things, raised the age to buy a gun in Florida to 21. Hammer said Broxson was one of seven Republicans who had committed to vote no on the bill, but instead voted in favor. She accused Senator Broxson of caving in to threats and promises from Senate leadership and switching his vote. Governor Scott signed the bill on March 9th. Broxson told the News Journal he couldn’t in good conscience vote against a bill that made students safer even if he didn’t agree with the gun control provisions.
