The Pensacola News Journal is reporting the National Park Service has delayed the start date for ferry service between Gulf Islands National Seashore, downtown Pensacola and Pensacola Beach. Dan Brown, superintendent of Gulf Islands National Seashore, said Thursday that ferry service will not start on May 18th, as previously announced. He said he did not know exactly when the two, 150-passenger ferries will begin shuttling passengers between downtown, and Santa Rosa Island. Brown said the ferries are still expected to begin operations this year. The two, 150 passenger ferries, named Turtle Runner and Pelican Perch, are funded with 5.2 million dollars in restitution funds paid by BP Oil.
