TRAFFIC FATAL FOLLOW-UP

The Florida Highway Patrol said the two children from Pace, killed in a weekend traffic crash, were in a car struck by a drunk driver who had refused to stop for a Santa Rosa County deputy. 35-year-old Kailen Kelly, was southbound on Woodbine Road and collided with a northbound SUV driven by Melanie Harrell. A Santa Rosa County deputy tried to stop Kelly after seeing him driving erratically, but he refused to pull over. The deputy broke off the pursuit because of safety concerns. 7-year-old Stormie Harrell and 17-year-old Sidney Dowdy, were fatally injured. Melanie Harrell and another passenger were seriously injured. Kelly suffered minor injuries and was booked into the Santa Rosa County Jail without bond on two counts of DUI vehicular homicide.
