The Gulf Breeze Zoo says a southern white rhino has been born at the zoo. The healthy 100-pound female is named Katana and is gaining around 10 pounds per day. Fully grown females weigh 3,000 to 4,000 pounds, while adult males weigh up to 5,000 pounds. Because of poaching less than 20,000 Southern white rhinos are left in the wild, and despite their name, white rhinos are actually grey in color. Katana and her rhino family are available for viewing from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily at the Zoo.
