District 1 Medical Examiner Dr. Andrea Minyard has filed a lawsuit against the four counties in the district, which she says have no right to audit her office’s financial records. Minyard is seeking a non-monetary declaratory judgment as to her rights under the various contracts that she has with Escambia, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa and Walton counties. Minyard has been criticized by several panhandle Sheriff’s for poor service and high fees and Okaloosa County Commissioners recently voted not to endorse her pending reappointment as medical examiner. Minyard has been the Medical Examiner for 14 years and her current term expires July 1st. The Florida Medical Examiners Commission will consider whether to recommend to Governor Scott that she be reappointed or be replaced with another candidate.
