The National Weather Service says coastal counties from Mississippi to Florida are under an extreme threat of flooding as a tropical disturbance is predicted to move over the Gulf Coast this weekend. The National Hurricane Center said there is a 70 percent chance that a tropical depression forms in the Gulf of Mexico within the next five days. If this disturbance develops into a tropical storm, it would be named Alberto. An extreme threat of flooding exists from Saturday through Tuesday along our coastal counties with widespread areas of flash flooding possible. Rainfall amounts of 6-12 inches are possible with localized higher amounts.
