Some local businesses are upset because the Destin City Council is considering prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages by Crab Island businesses and eventually banning the overnight mooring of floating structures or vessels. But since the submerged island is in unincorporated Okaloosa County, the proposed regulations require approval of the Okaloosa County Commission, which will consider the rules at its June 19th meeting. If the commission approves, the crackdown on the distribution alcohol would take effect immediately. The ban on overnight mooring could take effect after a one-year notice is issued to the public.
