HEAT DANGERS

With heat indexes as high as 106 degrees Fahrenheit in Northwest Florida over the next several days the risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke – a life-threatening condition – is increased. Symptoms of heat exhaustion include feeling faint or dizzy, excessive sweating, cool, clammy skin, nausea or vomiting, and muscle cramps. Symptoms of heat stroke can include a throbbing headache, no sweating, body temperature above 103 degrees, rapid strong pulse and loss of consciousness. With both conditions it is important to get out of the heat and drink water if conscious. With heat exhaustion a cool shower may help. With heat stroke call 911 and try to keep the victim cool.
