Okaloosa County Commissioners are considering changes in ordinances to better regulate activities at Crab Island. Sheriff Larry Ashley told Commissioners his deputies pulled 25 people from the waters around Crab Island just last weekend and most were either intoxicated or did not understand the weather conditions. At their meeting on July 17th Commissioners will consider whether to adopt an ordinance that would go into effect on November 1st and would prohibit the sale, distribution or consumption of alcoholic beverages on any commercial floating structure at Crab Island. The ordinance also would require each structure owner to obtain a special county license and pay a monthly $1,000 administrative fee to the county to conduct business.
