A 27-year-old driver for a day care center has been acquitted of charges of aggravated manslaughter for his role in leaving a 3-year-old in a hot van. Cornel McGee was facing one count of aggravated manslaughter of a child by culpable negligence in the death of Jai’Nier Barnes in August of 2017. McGee, was the driver at In His Arms Christian Academy, had picked up Jai’Nier and delivered her and several other children to the center. Neither he nor 28-year-old Louvenia Johnson, another employee at the business, realized the 3-year-old was asleep in the van. The child was eventually found and was pronounced dead at West Florida Hospital with an internal body temperature of 110 degrees. Johnson pleaded no contest last week to her charge of aggravated manslaughter of a child by culpable negligence and will be sentenced on August 10th.
