Walton County Commission candidate Trey Nick has gathered more than 1,000 signatures on a petition calling for the repeal of House Bill 631, which voided a customary use ordinance that Walton County had been enforcing for two years. The petition calls on the county’s legislative delegation to introduce legislation repealing House Bill 631, so that Walton County can protect public use of the beach. Walton County Sheriff Mike Adkinson said a portion of the petition incorrectly states that the Sheriff’s Office has ordered people to leave the beach or be arrested for trespass. The Sheriff said since July 1st no one has been arrested and if private property owners want people prosecuted they will have to obtain a warrant.
