Florida Governor Rick Scott, visiting Crestview on a campaign stop, said he may still formulate some sort of reprimand for Okaloosa County School Superintendent Mary Beth Jackson. Two grand jury reports have questioned Jackson’s ability to lead the Okaloosa County School District and recommended the Florida Department of Education review Jackson’s behavior, lack of leadership, and failure to fulfill her obligations as superintendent. While in Crestview Scott also announced that Florida’s crime rate was at a 47-year low and that unemployment had dropped in his two-term tenure as governor from 8 percent to 3 percent. Congressman Matt Gaetz and State Representative Mel Ponder were in attendance as were Okaloosa County commissioners Graham Fountain and Carolyn Ketchel as well as Crestview Mayor David Cadle.
