DEFUNIAK SPRINGS TAX BILL

The City of DeFuniak Springs City has been notified by the Internal Revenue Service they will no longer pursue the city for $95,000 in past due payroll taxes. Back on May 28th the City received a bill from the IRS for the 5-year-old debt. The accounting firm of Saltmarsh, Cleaveland & Gund found that incorrect W-2 forms were filed with the Social Security Administration showing employee wages of about $226,000, but forms filed with the IRS reported employee wages of $3.5 million dollars. CPA Charles Landers said documents will be sent to the IRS to resolve the five-year-old dispute, claim a refund and request an abatement of fees and fines.
