The Pensacola Police Department and the Institute for Human and Machine Cognition are partnering to develop a police drone program to help in search and rescue, disaster response, fugitive evasion, threat situations as well as monitoring outdoor events. The Institute for Human and Machine Cognition has been developing technology that will provide law enforcement customized drones with the capacity to operate in and around buildings. Department spokesman Mike Wood said eight officers will be certified to fly the drones, and the program should begin in six months.
