MORE FLORIDA ALLIGATOR-HUNTING PERMITS

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission say they have issued more than 7,500 permits, including an additional 1,313 county-wide permits to harvest alligators as a method to help manage the alligator population. The FWC says 13,210 nuisance alligator complaints resulted in the removal of 8,455 alligators in 2017.Alligators are a conservation success story in Florida. They were included on the original federal endangered species list in 1967, but were removed from the list in 1987 after the population rebounded. Today, the state’s alligator population is estimated at 1.3 million alligators and has been stable for many years.
