The widow of Air Force Technical Sergeant John Chapman, a Special Tactics airman who had been part of the Hurlburt Field-headquartered Air Force Special Operations Command, accepted a posthumous Medal of Honor from President Donald Trump in a ceremony at the White House yesterday. Chapman was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions in combat on March 4th, 2002, in Afghanistan. Chapman died from his injuries and was initially awarded the Air Force Cross, but a review of his actions resulted in a decision to award him the Medal of Honor. Chapman’s widow, Valerie Nessel, said her late husband would be extremely humbled by the honor.
