The hazier than usual conditions we have been experiencing along the Gulf Coast are actually caused by smoke from those wildfires that are burning out west. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says smoke from more than a dozen wildfires from California to Canada has been carried by upper-level winds all the way to the Gulf Coast, triggering air quality alerts in Houston and New Orleans. No air quality alerts have been issued in Northwest Florida, but the smoke in the air over the Panhandle that could affect people with allergies.
