As the summer season winds down gas prices are declining. Mark Jenkins, spokesman, for the Triple “A” Auto Club Group said pump prices are 40 to 50 cents higher than a year ago, but should continue to come down and by Labor Day, will probably be about the same level as last year, due in part to a relatively quiet hurricane season along the east coast. Gas prices in Florida dropped 4 cents last week as the state average declined for the 16th consecutive day. Sunday’s state average of $2.73 per gallon is 42 cents more than this time last year.
