The Midway Fire District in Santa Rosa County said a man piloting an ultra-light sea plane died when the aircraft crashed in Santa Rosa Sound yesterday morning. Chief Jonathan Kanzigg said the plane went down south of Tiger Point and about a mile from Portofino. Kanzigg said the man who appeared to be in his late 50s died in the crash. His identity has not yet been released. No one else was injured. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers also responded and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash.
