FLORIDA SPANISH-LANGUAGE BALLOTS

A federal judge has ruled that 32 counties in Florida must provide Spanish-language sample ballots for the November general election. U.S. District Judge Mark Walker sided with plaintiffs who sought an injunction to require Spanish-language ballots and other assistance for more than 30,000 Puerto Ricans in those counties. However, he declined to order Spanish-language ballots and hiring bilingual poll workers for the General Election. Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Jackson, and Wakulla counties in the Florida Panhandle are included in the 32 counties named by Judge Walker. Okaloosa County Supervisor of Elections Paul Lux said he had a person on-call to provide translation services for the recent primary election, but was not aware of anyone needing those services.
