RABID ANIMALS

Another raccoon captured in the Cove neighborhood of Panama City has tested positive for rabies. According to the Florida Health Department in Bay County, the animal was captured at the intersection of Cove Boulevard and Cherry Street, only a few blocks away from where the first rabid raccoon was captured back in February. This is the sixth confirmed rabid animal captured in Bay County this year. Meanwhile, a fourth fox has tested positive for rabies in Walton County, prompting the county’s Health Department to extend an ongoing rabies alert for 60 more days. The Health Departments in both counties urged residents to vaccinate domestic animals and avoid contact with wildlife.
