COMPROMISED JACKSON CO. CRIMINAL CASES

Prosecutors are reviewing more than 250 criminal cases involving a Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy after a video showed him planting drugs in a vehicle during a traffic stop. 26-year-old Zachary Wester was a patrol deputy with the Jackson County Sheriff’s office and was fired September 10^th. He is under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the State Attorney’s Office is reviewing 263 cases to determine Wester’s role and whether any misconduct took place. Prosecutors said they have identified 10 cases that involved misconduct in which incarcerated people’s sentences will need to be vacated, and 15 pending cases that have or will be dismissed.
