A landmark motel that has been in Fort Walton Beach for over 60 years has been demolished. The Dolphin Inn was built on Miracle Strip Parkway in 1957 and was originally called the Papagaya Motel, and reportedly had the city’s first swimming pool. Sam Patel, who has owned and managed the inn since 1999 said he wanted something nicer and the demolition should be completed by the end of the month. Construction of the new motel – to be named Hilton 2 – will begin next month.
