Damage to aircraft left behind for maintenance or safety reasons when Tyndall Air Force Base was evacuated last week in advance of Hurricane Michael’s may not have suffered as much damage as was first feared. The Air Force said the aircraft left behind were all intact and looked much better than expected considering the surrounding damage to some structures. However, they said it is not yet clear whether the aircraft, which include F-22 Raptor fighter jets, can be repaired. Air Force leaders said they will be working detailed plans in the days ahead to make the base operational once again.
