CHILD ABUSE ARREST

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Department said a man and woman, have been arrested for beating a child in their care. A Department of Children and Families investigator alerted authorities after an anonymous complaint was made regarding excessive bruising on the child who had been in the care of 26-year-old Tony Walker, and 35-year-old Lea Haygood. The child – who had black eyes and a large bruise on her neck – told the investigator she was told to say that she had fallen at school. Both Walker and Haygood were charged with child abuse, a third-degree felony. They were booked into the Escambia County Jail on Tuesday and both were released on $5,000 bond. The Department of Children and Families is still investigating.
