The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Department said Avalon Middle School and Benny Russell Elementary were placed on lockdown for a time yesterday after information was received that a student overheard another saying there was a weapon at the school. One person was questioned about the incident and the lockdown was lifted from both schools around 1 p.m. after it was determined there was no threat.
