Red Tide, has been found in Navarre Beach and could be moving toward Pensacola Beach. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said high concentrations of Red Tide were detected off the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier on October 17th. Robert Turpin, Escambia County’s director of marine resources, said no significant blooms of Red Tide have been detected in Escambia County waters. Jane Caffrey, a professor with the University of West Florida’s Center, said it’s possible the bloom could continue traveling westward and affect Pensacola Beach. In addition to killing marine life, Red Tide is known to cause respiratory distress in humans.
