Things are tense in Mexico Beach in Bay County after Hurricane Michael. The interim city manager has attempted to fire the police chief. Chief Anthony Kelly said the source of controversy was whether survivors should be removed from what’s left of the city as rebuilding efforts began. Kelly said, he wants food distribution stations brought into Mexico Beach so that survivors could begin to piece together their lives. Tanya Castro – former council member and interim City Manager Tanya Castro – tried to close the borders to the town, and only allow in properly vetted utility workers and clean-up crews in order to prevent looting. Castro said the performance of law enforcement prompted the need to call in reinforcements, but did not directly address the reasons for seeking to have the police chief fired.
