RED TIDE

Red Tide along the coast of Northwest Florida has reached Escambia County. New sampling data shows very low concentrations in Santa Rosa Sound near the Bob Sikes Bridge; low concentrations at Pensacola Beach; and medium concentrations at Navarre Beach in Santa Rosa County and near Destin in Okaloosa County. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says swimming is safe for most people although some may experience itchy skin, burning eyes, and respiratory irritation. However, Red Tide produces toxins that kill or injure marine life. Reports of fish kills have occurred in Okaloosa, Walton, Bay and Franklin counties. The University of South Florida says Red Tide will continue along the coast of Northwest Florida at least through the first few days of November.
