Escambia County Commissioners have approved the proposed scope of work for a professional planning firm to develop the Navy Outlying Field 8 property of Nine Mile Road. The county has spent more than 17 million dollars to build a helicopter training field for the Navy to swap it with the one in Beulah next to Navy Federal Credit Union once the county takes possession of it from the Navy. The county also has submitted a pre-application for Triumph for 30 million dollars to develop the 640-acre property as a commerce park that would bring in at least 1,000 jobs. Navy Federal has offered to enter into a partnership with the county to select and pay for a master planner. The county is expected to obtain the land in January.
