CRIME RATE DECLINES

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement says crime is down significantly in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. From January through June of 2018, major crimes in Santa Rosa County were down by 20 percent. The Pensacola Police Department reported 1,090 major crimes for the first half of 2018, down 15 percent from its previous semi-annual report in 2016. The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office reported an 8.4 percent reduction in major crimes from 2017. The University of West Florida and Pensacola State College police departments, reported a combined 25 index crimes, down from the 40 they investigated in early 2017.
