Nikki Fried, Florida’s newly elected agriculture commissioner, says she plans to look into the state’s concealed weapons permit program once she is sworn into office. Fried, said she has begun talking about possible changes to the program. There will likely be a legislative battle over whether the program should be moved to a different state agency after lapses in the program came to light earlier this year. Democrats in the state Senate, meanwhile, have filed a bill to transfer the program to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Fried, who is the only statewide elected Democrat, will take office January 8th.
