Hanukkah celebrations are underway around the world. The City of Pensacola marked the first night by lighting the first candle on a Menorah in front of City Hall, the first time the city has hosted the ceremony. Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday commemorating the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt and is also known as the Festival of Lights. Hanukkah may occur at any time from late November to late December and lasts for eight days.
