A murder charge against a teenager accused of fatally shooting a man in a parking lot last year has been dismissed because he was defending himself. 16-year-old Tyree Maddox, pleaded no contest to a drug trafficking charge, but had also had been charged with second-degree murder after gunfire erupted March 19, 2017, in the parking lot of the Shoppes at Edgewater Plaza, leaving 27-year-old Ples Robinson dead. However, his defense attorney argued Maddox was immune under the “stand your ground” law” after Robinson pointed a gun at him. The State Attorney’s Office and the Circuit Judge both agreed and dismissed the murder charge and Maddox was sentenced to eight years in prison.
