Crestview Police say a homeless man almost blew up a Crestview church yesterday morning. Responding officers said 32-year-old Christopher Stanton, broke into the First Presbyterian Church of Crestview, took several bags of chips, used the stove to light a cigarette, and then went to sleep in an upstairs Sunday school room with his dog. But Stanton did not turn off the stove, and gas reportedly filled all three floors of the church. A custodian who arrived the next morning found the break-in and noticed the smell of gas and called police who found Stanton still asleep upstairs. Luckily, there was no explosion and he was booked into the Okaloosa County Jail and his dog turned over to the Panhandle Animal Welfare Society.
