BAY COUNTY FAKE BOMB CHARGES

The Springfield Police Department says a Bay County man was charged with possession of a hoax weapon of mass destruction after a mock bomb was found in his car on Wednesday. Officers stopped 33-year-old Joshua Abernathy, of Panama City Beach, for a traffic violation and found the device in his vehicle. They exited the area, set up a safe perimeter and called the Bay County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad who used a robot to retrieve the device, which was made to look like a pipe bomb. Abernathy said the fake bomb did not belong to him, that he found it and was taking it to a safer location. He was also charged with possession of a concealed weapon, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.
