SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT SUSPENSION

Florida Senate President Bill Galvano announced a special master has been appointed to weigh the merits of Governor Ron DeSantis’ suspension of Okaloosa County School Superintendent Mary Beth Jackson. Former State Representative Dudley Goodlette, from Naples, will conduct a hearing and submit an advisory report, which Galvano will refer to the chamber’s Committee on Rules for consideration. DeSantis suspended Jackson January 11th on the recommendation of new Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran that a grand jury said  Jackson failed to fulfill her obligation to the district’s 30,000 students. Depending on the findings of the special master, Jackson could be removed permanently from office or given back her job.
