The Santa Rosa County Animal Shelter says an outbreak of the feline panleukopenia virus will prevent them from taking in or adopting out cats and kittens for at least two weeks. Additionally, drop boxes outside the facility are closed until further notice. The shelter said they will quarantine their cats for several weeks while they fully disinfect cat areas. Dr. Megan Arevalo, shelter veterinarian, said the shelter is in the process of sanitizing quarantine areas while closely monitoring cats and kittens for any symptoms.
