GULF WHALE SIGHTING

A whale has been seen in the Gulf, some sixty miles offshore. Fishermen saw a whale breaching, but it was not possible to determine what kind of whale it was from photographs. Scientists with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said it was likely a Bryde’s whale, or a small fin whale. The whale came up beside the boat for five to 10 minutes and observers were fairly sure there were two smaller whales, which my have been calves belonging to the larger whale.
