The Walton County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a jewelry thief. On March 22, a thief was caught on surveillance video stealing approximately $17,000 worth of jewelry from McCaskill & Company in Miramar Beach. Around10 a.m., the suspect, who identified himself as “John Abbott”, asked to take several pieces of jewelry outside so he could see them in natural light. He then headed for his car and the clerk was unable to stop him. He is said to be as a middle-aged white male with brown hair and a full beard, about 5’7”. He was wearing a blue Under Armour ball cap, a black Columbia jacket, glasses, and blue jeans and drove off in a gray Toyota Yaris with no license plate and multiple bumper stickers covering the truck and back bumper.
