GAETZ WILL NOT RUN FOR ALABAMA SENATE SEAT

The Pensacola News Journal is reporting that Congressman Matt Gaetz is saying he is not planning to run against Alabama U.S. Senator Doug Jones in 2020. The Hill, a website that covers Capitol Hill, said Gaetz told them other people have mentioned Alabama’s short residency requirement, but it’s not something he’s looked at himself. Alabama only requires federal candidates from the state to be residents for one day to qualify, so Gaetz would only need to move into Alabama to qualify to run. If Gaetz did run he would be competing for the Republican nomination against Congressman Bradley Byrne.
