MILTON TRAFFIC CONGESTION

The Milton City Council has voted against a plan to widen Highway 90 to four lanes in downtown Milton. The Florida Department of transportation has recommended widening Highway 90 through Escambia and Santa Rosa counties to six lanes from Glover Lane to State Road 87 to reduce traffic congestion and increase capacity. A section through downtown Milton would be expanded from two to four lanes, but in order to do that the historic Fisher Hamilton Building would have to be torn down. Council members are asking transportation officials to consider expanding other corridors instead.
