The often contentious 10-year reign of Mark Weeks as city marshal of Defuniak Springs appears to have come to an end. A recount of votes cast in Tuesday’s municipal election found James Hurley, a former Walton County sheriff’s deputy and police instructor, leading Weeks by five votes – 588 votes to 583, although the elections results still have to be officially certified. All three City Council members on the ballot Tuesday also lost to newcomers.
