Florida Governor Ron DeSantis continues to push for more federal money to aid in the recovery from Hurricane Michael. DeSantis wrote a letter to President Donald Trump asking that the federal government pick up 90% of the cost of debris removal and emergency protective measures. Currently, the federal government is slated to pick up 75%. After Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita the federal government picked up 90% of the bill and the last time a Category 5 hurricane hit the U.S. – Hurricane Andrew in 1992 – the federal government picked up 100%.
